TensioMed Arteriograph

Arteriosclerosis is a major disease causing more than half of early deaths across Europe. Therefore its prevention is vital: the earlier the disease is discovered the higher chance of survival the patient has. Arteriosclerosis still discovered in its early stage can be followed by an effective therapy in order to defeat the illness.

TensioMed™ Arteriograph is a new medical invention capable of measuring the arterial stiffness in a simple, fast and convenient way.

Arterial Stiffness is defined by two independent parameters.

  1. Augmentation Index (AIX) provides information on stress level of the arteries (endotherial function): whether the arteries are contracted (stressy) or they are in normal (open) state.
  2. Pulse Wave Velocity (PWV) tells you information on the elasticity of the aorta (stiffness). The higher the PWV the stiffer the aorta having affected by arteriosclerosis. `Vascular Stiffness precedes arteriosclerosis and is a risk factor for arteriosclerosis. Studies clearly demonstrate that PWV and the Augmentation Index are associated with the structural changes of arteriosclerosis.`Davies, J.l., Struthers,A.D.: J. Hypertens 21: 463-472, 2003

The measurement takes just two minutes with an upper arm cuff. The measurement is safe and painless not causing any harm or pain to the patient. The devices provides a measurement report called arteriogram assessing the general condition of arteries. The assessment tells you whether the endothel function (stress level of arteries measured by AIX) and the Pulse Wave Velocity of the aorta (elasticity and stiffness of the aorta measured by PWV) in your case is:

  1. optimal
  2. normal
  3. increased
  4. abnormal

The threshold levels are defined by the relevant medical literature on arterial stiffness and by the experiences of our measurement practice.

We would like to emphasize that the assessment and measurement neither constitutes nor substitutes the medication of the illness. If the result of the measurement happens to be abnormal you have to turn to proper medication. We can give you advice where to turn to if further diagnostics or treatment is necessary.
